Home Inspections
As part of a comprehensive energy audit, Mark will inspect and analyze your entire home using proven scientific methods; will submit a written report of findings, and will make recommendations to lower energy costs, improve your home's comfort and improve the overall environment of your home.
The Process.
During the course of a comprehensive home energy audit, your home will be visually inspected inside and out, top to bottom; essential data will be collected and measurements taken; and the most current building science principles will be applied to completely analyze your home in regards to energy use and waste, health and safety, as well as overall home durability.
All combustion appliances that may be present will be tested and analyzed to assure that they are operating safely and properly. Data will be collected to determine their efficiency.
A blower door test will be utilized to measure the air exchange of your home to determine the amount of air leakage that your home may have and to assist in pin pointing the locations of any leakage.
The site visit at your home typically takes between 3 – 4 hours.
At the conclusion of the energy audit, Mark will verbally review the overall findings with you and then will produce a written report for you within two weeks.
A typical comprehensive audit will normally cost $375 for a home 3,000 square feet or less and within 30 miles of Thurmont.

Your Detailed Written Report
Within two weeks after your site visit, Mark will produce a detailed written report for you based on your comprehensive home performance energy audit. The report will contain overall findings and observations plus essential measurements and data collected. Most important for you, a list of recommendations for improvements will be produced that will help you to make your home more energy efficient, as well as more comfortable and healthy.
Whenever possible, the recommendations will include costs estimates for the improvements, along with projected savings that the improvements will create and estimated payback period based on energy savings.
Pictures will be included of areas where improvements are recommended so that these areas are easily identified by whoever does the improvements. If requested, Mark can also make recommendations for qualified contractors to perform the work.
Mark will also return to your home, at no additional cost, to perform a follow-up blower door test after any air sealing work is done, regardless of who did the work.
